Lowkey lighting has been used to create a shadow on the woman's face. Top lighting, from the left-hand side, allows the majority of the woman's face to be hidden in the shadows. This technique could've been used to create mystery and potentially depict her as the femme fatale

Lowkey lighting is used to create dramatic shadows on the woman's face. Top lighting is also used which accentuates her features and the feminine aspects of it. The positioning of her hands and the expression on her face presents her as being in a state of disparity.

In this image, high key lighting is being used. Although there are shadows around certain parts of the protagonists face, the effect of the lighting is more realistic and not as harsh. The shadows that are seen under his eyes and neck appear to be created through top lighting. These shadows portray the protagonist as domineering and potentially tyrannical.

Lowkey lighting, along with other lighting techniques, has been used to present narrative to an audience. The use of key lights and backlights produces a strong contrast between the light and dark (Chiaroscuro). Top lighting, similarly to the others, has been used in this image. This generates a dramatic shadow on the left side of the protagonists face The use of top lighting also brings attention to the weapon that is held in the protagonist's hand. A low-angled shot is also used to portray him as dominant

This image uses lowkey lighting. Top lighting is used to give audiences a clear view of the protagonist's fearful expression. This image is a low angle shot which puts us into the shoes of the antagonist, which gives viewers the audience pleasure of voyeurism.

In this image, lowkey lighting is used. The key light, glaring through the binds, creates the feeling of secrecy. Blinds are usually a key convention featured in crime drama movies. It also has certain aspects of a neo-noir.

Lowkey lighting is used to give a chiaroscuro effect. silhouettes are generated through the backlighting. These silhouettes create enigma for the audiences as the identities of these individuals are not presented to the audiences. The use of silhouettes also brings attention to the weapons within the characters hands.

Lowkey lighting is used, You can identify this by the dramatic contrasts between darkness and light. The key light, coming from the left-hand side, puts emphasis on her fearful facial expression. This indicates to the audience that some form of danger is present.

High key lighting is used in this image to light up the entirety of the image and clearly present the protagonists face to the audience. Top lighting is used to give the illusion that light is shining down onto her. This, along with the positioning of her hands, conveys a theme of religion and spiritual presence

Lowkey lighting is used within this image. Backlighting is used to create a dramatic contrast between the light and the darkness from the surrounding environment. The backlight only presents half of the antagonists face to the audience which creates an ominous effect. Lighting is also used to bring attention to the weapon that is in the antagonist's hand. The image is shot from a low angle. We are put in the shoes of the protagonist.













Film noir research 

Film Noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. These sexual advances are usually taken place by the femme fatale. The term Femme fatale is referred to a woman that uses her desirable qualities and seductive nature to lure a male protagonist into a compromising and deadly trap. The lighting style is typically lowkey lighting, very rarely are filler lights used. The dark lighting in film noir is typically used to create tension

This clip falls under the genre of film noir, it has all of the typical conventions that are seen when watching this genre. Lowkey lighting is used throughout the sequence of this clip. This is deliberately used to create tension and build suspense The lowkey lighting with directed lighting on certain parts or movements on the body ensures that the viewer focuses on the aspects that are highlighted.

  Marxism & hegemony: blog tasks Task 1: Mail Online review of Capital in the mail online review of Capital, the writer states that Capital features a plethora of left-wing ideologies. The writer suggests that this is because the writers want to appeal to people that are of ethnic minorities by portraying everything that is traditionally British as something that is negative. This belief, from the writer, is shown in the line 'Everything British came in for a dose of loathing'   Criticisms of Capital  'With a fizzle like a firework on a wet night, Capital (BBC1) dribbled to a soggy ending'.  This quote is quite critical of the plot to Capital however it made be argued that this criticism is valid. The first episode was strong in terms of plot but that may have changed later on in the series.   Video feedback/learner response Feedback from Mr Bush: Good decrease in volume Good use of contrapuntal sound Fade of sound at the end of video EBI: Highlight keywords Make the parallel sound clear  Feedback from classmates: They liked the introduction of the contrapuntal sound. My feedback: I enjoyed creating this video as I was able to show some of my editing skills to the teacher and my classmates. In my opinion, I think the highlight of my task was the volume dip so highlight the dialogue of the character. I also faded to a dark screen at the end of my video along with including a volume fad for the contrapuntal audio that I used EBI: I should've found a clip that included a higher volume of parallel sound or I could've put parallel sound in myself  The top 3 videos in the class were Nadima's and Tegan&Hannah's.
