Cinematography Task Catch up

Cinematography Task Catch up  Task One: 3 Colours Blue The director uses close up shots of the car tire so depict to the audience that the characters are on a journey to somewhere. In addition the close up of the characters face is used to convey the emotions of the characters whilst on this trip. The focus switches from the girls face to the view of the cars. The director is showing the audience what the little girl can see. That puts the audience in a position to identify with this specific character. There is a close up of brake fluid leaking from the car, this foreshadows, to the audience, a car crash or disruption whilst driving on the road. The car crash that comes soon after this will have an emotional impact on the audience as they have been made to identify with the young girl previously through the use of closeups.  Task Two: Citizen Kane In the opening of this clip, closeups and panning shots are utilised to establish the setting to the audience. Dim lighting and the use of

Cinematography Analysis Blog Task

Cinematography Analysis Blog Task Task One: The Birds (1962), directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Alfred Hitchcock uses editing to establish action whilst also building suspense. Soon after the woman sits down to smoke, there is a cross cut to the birds. The camera focusing on the birds for a long extent of time builds tension for the audience. A cutaway  is used at this moment as she is running away, this is suggesting to the audience that the birds are a type of threat. The use of cross-cutting between the birds and the woman running successfully depicts the suspense within the scene. Task Two: City of God (2002), directed by Fernando Meirelles. In the opening of this clip, cross cuts are used in abundance to make the pace quite fast. Fast camera movements and shaky camera work are also used to enhance this. This is used to portray the chaotic atmosphere amongst the characters. In the section of the clip when the children are talking amongst themselves, the camera movements look simila

Cinematography Task - Learner response

Cinematography video feedback/learner response WWW: Clear written description, with some explanations – highlighting media terminology;  Excellent idea to include a voiceover; • Effective use of on-screen titles – positioned well – to label shots;  Great opening close-up shot and movement downwards;  Accomplished continuity editing – economical story-telling;  Very effective use of music – appropriate for the narrative;  Some superb cinematography and editing throughout!  EBI: The opening ‘pan’ is actually a downward ‘tilt’; • Avoid two similar shots in succession (e.g. the close-ups of the phone);  The 180-degree rule is broken when the protagonist goes through the door;  Attention to detail – camera operator can be seen indoor reflection;  Missed opportunities to include zoom in/out;  The ‘tracking shot’ at the end is actually a ‘pan’;  'The End’ title would have been better as a film title as it’s like a trailer.  I asked Nadima, whilst in the lesson, to give me feedback on my

Cinematogrphy Task - Practical

Cinematogrphy Task - Practical In this short clip that I have made, the main protagonist, Hannah, is experiencing difficulties with school and the bullies that she encounters. I have used a wide range of camera shots and movements to portray the events that take place within the main protagonists time at school. The initial shots focus on the main protagonist so that the audiences feel compelled to identify with her and feel a sense of sympathy for the character. I have used a voice over to further enhance the audience's identification with the main character. Parallel sound is also used to convey emotions and enhance the feelings of the character.

Film & TV Language: Cinematography blog tasks

Film & TV Language: Cinematography blog tasks Within the opening of the sequence, the audience is presented with a medium close up of the character to present his emotions and calamity. There is then a close up shot of the hotel door and the door number. The closeup of the door number suggests that there is a significance with the number and fans of the shining would be able to spot the easter egg. This offers viewers the audience pleasure of familiarity and gives them a feeling of being rewarded for being able to identify it. Soon after this, a long shot is used to display the setting of the bathroom. Another medium close up is used to convey the emotions felt by the character in this scene. Soon after the women approaches the main character of this scene, the camera pans towards the mirror to reveal the woman's true identity. For the remaining of the scene uses a mixture of medium close ups and medium long shots to present to the audience what is happening in the surroundin

Video feedback/learner response

Video feedback/learner response Feedback from Mr Bush: Good decrease in volume Good use of contrapuntal sound Fade of sound at the end of video EBI: Highlight keywords Make the parallel sound clear  Feedback from classmates: They liked the introduction of the contrapuntal sound. My feedback: I enjoyed creating this video as I was able to show some of my editing skills to the teacher and my classmates. In my opinion, I think the highlight of my task was the volume dip so highlight the dialogue of the character. I also faded to a dark screen at the end of my video along with including a volume fad for the contrapuntal audio that I used EBI: I should've found a clip that included a higher volume of parallel sound or I could've put parallel sound in myself  The top 3 videos in the class were Nadima's and Tegan&Hannah's. They were successful as they made a clear distinction between the contrapuntal and parallel sound. I could've made my parallel sound clearer to th
